Humble Beginnings

Since the age of 19, Steve Franklin has worked in retail. He spent 8 years cutting his teeth with one of the world's leading retailers, Sears. In 8 years, he was promoted 5 times.

At the ripe old age of 27, he purchased a marina and boat dealership. Less than two years later, it was wiped out by hurricane Allen.

Not to be deterred, he purchased another boat dealership 40 miles away, operated it successfully for 6 years and sold it to a large corporation.

A year off for fishing and playing golf left him wanting something new. He and his wife moved to her home state of California where Steve managed a high end furniture store.

Two years later, Texas was calling him home. He moved back and went to work for a small RV dealership that had only been in business for a few months.

Steve stayed with this company for 8 years as the Vice-President and General Manager. He was instrumental in building this company into a 5 store chain.

In July of 1996, Steve left the company to, once again, pursue his own dream with the help of his two sons. Armed with an idea and years of experience, he leased a 3 acre lot on Interstate 10 near Boerne, TX.

On October 1, 1996, they opened the doors of the first American Dream Vacations store. They had one travel trailer Steve had purchased himself and offered it for rent. At the same time, they begain contacting existing RV owners and talking to them about letting him rent their RV when they weren't using it.

As it turned out, there were a lot of RV owners that simply weren't using their RV and felt this might be a great way to recoup some of their investment. American Dream Vacations quickly gained their trust and the business took off.

In less than 2 years, American Dream Vacations took on a line of new travel traiers and motorhomes. In short order, the rental fleet inventory was limited to only new units purchased from them.

The business grew rapidly under watchful eye of Steve and his sons, Tony and Trenton. On October 1, 1999 they decided to try the same concept in a totally new market. They opened a store in Oklahoma City, OK using the same business model and all they had learned in the first 3 years. It worked just as well the second time.

The Oklahoma location has since sold and in 2023 through retirement wound down leaving a vacant market opportunity of significant value.

In 2004, the family was convinced their business model would work in any market. RV Benefit Services, LLC. was born and began licensing others to operate their own American Dream Vacations stores.

The rest, as they say, is history. American Dream Vacations now boasts licensee owned stores in Austin, Boerne, Big Bend, Houston and Denton, TX, Phillipsburg, MO, Chicago, IL, Albuquerque, NM, Hobe Sound, FL, Fort Lauderdale, FL and North Atlanta, GA.
